God has entrusted us with one of his most precious gifts - loving and caring for His children. Our Children's Ministry at First Baptist Church of Shawnee seeks to plant the seeds of God's goodness and grace. There are many opportunities for your children here including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, choir programs and so much more.
First Baptist Church Children's Choirs
First Baptist Church of Shawnee will begin its unique children's choir program August 20. The choirs meet Wednesday evenings from 5:45-6:45 p.m..
“This year's theme is ‘Living in the Light,’ based on the many scriptures that emphasize light, said Mark Burnett, FBC minister of music and children’s music ministry coordinator.
The yearlong theme reminds children that God said "Let there be light and there was light and the light was good." They will also realize that Jesus is the light of the world and a light for their path.
On most Wednesday evenings during the school year, the ministry rehearses three choirs, divided by age groups, each directed by a different volunteer musician from the church.
All the choirs last an hour, except for the youngest, the preschool choir, which has a 30-minute rehearsal followed by a 30-minute world missions emphasis.
The age limits are geared to those of public school (child's age by Sept 1).
April Stobbe and Kim Wiens direct the Preschool Choir, a choir for 3-years through Pre-K.
Jo Lewis directs the first and second-grade children in Music Makers.
Conchita Hansford directs the children in third - fifth grades in Young Musicians.
"All the directors have multiple years' experience, so the children are receiving the very best instruction in singing and music." Burnett said.
A church community supper is served at 5 p.m. each Wednesday evening in the Fellowship Hall, followed by children's choirs at 5:45, and prayer meeting at 6.
