FIRST CONNECTIONS – August 4, 2017

First Baptist Church Shawnee

Be Disciples. Make Disciples.

“And he called his disciples to him, and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For they all contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, her whole living.” Mark 12:43-44

Sermon, Sunday, August 6, 2017: “We Are His Workmanship”; Ephesians 2:1-10; Paul Stevens

Sunday School Records

If you help with records in your Sunday School class, you are appreciated and your dedication is recognized. In order for things to work properly for the Sunday School office on Sunday morning and for Mary in the church office:

·         Please mark your members present on your sheets and turn your box back in to the records office no later than 10:10 am.

·         Records not done at all will make it impossible to record a SS total on the next Sunday’s bulletin and eventually in the Associational Report. (It will reflect an inaccurately low attendance.)

Thank you!

The Instant Church Directory app available for your smartphone is kept up-to-date by the church office, except for photos which we will gladly update if new ones are e-mailed to us.

This really is a handy little tool and since the annual subscription is paid, it costs church members nothing! With it church members can look up other church members information.

Please call the church office if you need help getting it on your phone. Here are the basic steps:

 1) Just make sure that you have a current, working email address (that your phone knows and that has been entered into the pictorial directory information); if you are not sure about this, just call Mary and we can figure it out.

 2) Go to your app store on your smart phone and download the free app named “Instant Church Directory” .

3) The app will prompt you to enter your email address and to create and enter a password. That’s all there is to it, but if it is still daunting, swing by the office & we’ll help you with it.

Contemporary Worship Service

We now have a Contemporary Worship Service in Fellowship Hall at 10:45 am, going on at the same time as the Traditional Worship Service in the Sanctuary.  As we begin adjusting to some new logistics that come with this, we will be forgoing the Children's Sermon for the summer. Nursery and Kid's Chapel also available for the new service.

Teacher School Supply Drive

July 16-August 20

We all know that teachers spend a lot of their own money to get extra supplies for their classrooms. We feel our church members would like to give back to teachers by helping with some of the supplies teachers find themselves running out of. We have received many wonderful supplies! We’ve marked off the ones we have, (at the display at the Welcome Center) and highlighted the ones we still need! There are bins to put your donations in at the Welcome Center. Thank you for helping support our teachers.

A Hand Up Hygiene Drive:

There are boxes located in the church office to collect hygiene drive items. The drive is sponsored by TEEM: “an interfaith 501 (C) (3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to breaking the cycles of incarceration and poverty through education, personal development, and work readiness training.” Kris Steele called the church and asked permission to place these boxes. If you would like to donate, the items are just basis hygiene needs or you can also look at the list of items on the side of each box.

Teller Help Needed

We have a committee which is called the Tellers, whose sole purpose is to count the offerings, make out the deposit forms, and get the money to the bank weekly. We are in need of someone as a back-up Teller, just in case someone (like Mary) is having health difficulties and cannot be there. It would just be an occasional job and full training is provided – although none of it is very difficult. Call Mary – 275-6111 – if you are interested or if you would like more info.

Give Online. It’s Easy!

FBC is excited to announce that you can now manage your giving On-Line! Giving On-Line is easy and allows you to set up automatic recurring contributions and view your complete giving history from anywhere you have internet access. Go to our websitewww.firstshawnee.com/give for more details.

 DON’T FORGET!

If you move or change your phone number or email address, please contact us at the church office so we can make the changes to the church directory and database. (Call 275-6111 or email firstshawnee@gmail.com) Thank you!  Mary
