First Connections – August 19, 2016

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.” Mark 1:9-11

Doing Life Together

Saturday, Sept. 24; 9:00 am-4:00 pm

FBC Fellowship Hall

Plans are underway for a special day of worship, learning and fellowship for the women of FBC Shawnee. Guests are also welcome to attend. Additional details to follow.

We need some of the men of the church to come volunteer to serve the women during the women's ministry event on September 24. Help includes: set up, hospitality, clean up, run tech, and being available to the women during the event. They can contact Aaron Hembree if they are interested in helping out: (405) 290-8503.

Teacher School Supply Drive

We all know that teachers spend a lot of their own money to get extra supplies for their classrooms. Donations for the Relief Effort in Louisiana (from Ray)

We currently do not have a fund set up for that here.  However, where we would give and where I would suggest you give is to one of the Baptist Disaster Relief organizations.  They put whatever donations straight into the field as their overhead costs are offset by cooperative giving.  This ministry is probably the best thing Baptists do.  Here is a website with the address (it also gives you an option to donate online):

Van Ministry

We are interested in getting a van ministry started here at First Baptist Church and would like to begin as soon after school starts as possible. We are looking for volunteers for a driving rotation for Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. The expectations of time requirements are:  Sunday mornings from 8:45-9:30 am and 12-12:45 pm; Wednesday evenings from 5-5:45 and 8-8:45 pm. Please contact Elaine Hawkins if you are interested in helping. or 405-613-1937.

Give Online. It’s Easy!
