First Connections – July 24, 2015

Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling; I walk before the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 116:7-9

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!?

(It is time to buy school supplies already!)

Family Promise

Our families in our Family Promise program have kids who are going back to school soon and need some school supplies.  The case manager at Family Promise sent out an email with all the needs and I volunteered our church to help meet some of them!  A list will be posted on the office window this Sunday (July 26th) and the next Sunday (August 2nd) for anyone to sign up to get these items and return them to the school supply box in Mary’s office by August 3rd.  You may choose to buy only one item or all of it.  My suggestion is to let your child (if you have one) choose what they would like to pick out and buy for a Family Promise homeless child.  This would be a great way to get them involved in missions.  Jan Tipton; 405.613.9925  (cell)

These are the needs we picked:

1 Washable water colors (water paints)       6 Yellow Highlighters

2 48-count Crayolas                                        11 Packs of Pencils (10-packs)

18 Pink Erasers

Horace Mann

We are also partnering with Mission Shawnee to provide wish-list needs for some of the teachers at Horace Mann.  Here is a brief list, but please sign up at the church office; signing up will help to prevent duplication.

Staples, Kleenex, Germ X, computer speakers, student scissors, rope lights, dry erase markers, crayons, Clorox wipes, pencils, mechanical pencils, wide-ruled notebook paper, cap erasers and individually wrapped snacks.

There will be boxes or bins near the office for collection of the supplies. Thanks - Mary

Opportunities for Service

(We Need Help!)

The Splash Party is coming up very soon (August 5 from 5:30-7:30pm: see ad below.)

And we need some help getting ready for it. Here are the needs:

1)    Putting up orange netting around the empty lot.

This could be done anytime between Thursday, July 30 to Monday August 3.

This requires the ability to use a manual post driver.

2)    Heavy-duty set-up help on August 5 (day of the event) from 3-5:30pm

Moving tables, grill, sno-cone machine, setting up canopies, etc.

3)    Light-weight set-up help also on August 5 from 3-5:30pm

Papergoods, food, cups, etc.

If you can help in any of these areas, please contact Elaine Hawkins or call the church office, 275-6111.
