     A deacon is one whose commitment, demeanor, and spirit qualify the individual to function as a servant of the entire church.  His or her purpose is to promote spiritual welfare, scriptural obedience, and perseverance in the Christian life of the members.  A deacon must be willing to serve in the ministry functions of the deacon body in true commitment to the ideals of Christian servanthood.  Deacons have several roles during the worship service as well as ministry needs requested by the Pastor and the Church.


Man or woman 18 years old or older

A Christian for at least 3 years

A member of First Baptist Church for at least one year  

Active in Sunday school and worship attendance

A person worthy of respect               

A financial supporter of the church and its ministries

One who sets a personal example of Christian living


     Sunday August 24 - Characteristics, qualifications, and duties of a deacon in the worship bulletin.  A list of current names to be considered will follow.

     Friday September 5 – Print list of eligible deacons along with characteristics in First Connections

     Sundays September 7, 14, 21- Nomination forms and current lists of names in the worship bulletin

     Week of September 22 – 27 - Screening by Deacon Nominating Committee

     Friday October 3 – Print list of candidates with bios in First Connections

     Sunday October 5 - VOTE on deacon candidates

Service Opportunities at FBC:

Baby Blankets: The church needs new (preferably homemade) baby blankets to give as gifts at new baby dedications. Any type is acceptable—quilted, knitted, crocheted, etc. Contact Elaine Hawkins.

 Tutors/Prayer Partners: If you are interested in becoming a tutor, contact Pat Prescott. The two schools we serve are Horace Mann and Jefferson. She will need to know which school; grade level and subject area you would prefer.

 Family Promise will be at FBC from October 5-October 12. There is a sign-up outside the church office.  Still have these openings: Evening host (6-9 pm) Sun, Mon, and Overnight Sun, Mon, Wed and Fri.
